Who We Are

Marc Felton is the Chief Farming Officer. My family includes my wife Mary and 3 kids: Jeremy (7), Madeline (5), and Nathaniel (2). In addition to being their primary caregiver Mary is the Chief Financial Officer. Marc is a 3rd generation Californian who grew up in Monterey, CA and I just can't imagine living anywhere else.  In high school I was an exchange student in Japan and I walked among rice paddies to take the train to ride my bike to get to school. I saw there how space can be used to its full potential sustainably for 1000's of years. Passionate farmers who do not have so much land they can't keep track of it can produce food without destroying their land.

I had a decade long career in high tech in the Bay Area before moving to Sebastopol to raise my family. I started this farm when the Sac River fall king salmon run dwindled to 5% of its usual population and my dream of operating a salmon charter fishing vessel evaporated in a single year. I hope to produce food that is at least in some ways similar in nutritional quality and depth of flavor to that most noble California resource: the wild king salmon.
Augustino Malisa (Tino) was born in the medium family in which both his mother and his father had raised their family in farming activities. Augustino Malisa was the fourth of twelve children born to a farmer and his wives in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. Having grown up planting coffee and bananas between dodging lions on the way to school, “Tino” eventually became an agricultural extension worker to improve the capacity of rural farmers. This is when he met his wife, Alison, who was doing similar work with the Peace Corps. He now proudly runs a happy homestead in Sebastopol with two young sons, Amani (3) and Asante (newborn) and the knowledge that he is continuing to educate and support sustainable community access to healthful food.
Sarah Silva grew up in Sonoma County and has been around animals and caring and raising them in some capacity all of her life. In 2007 Sarah decided to leave the well respected world of NASA Education and Public Outreach to spend time with her family and her animals. In May of 2008 Silva Star Farms was made official and she's been working non-stop ever since. In autumn 2011 Silva Star Farm and Felton Acres merged and Sarah took on the job of managing the combined operation.
