Pigs

Our piglets are born on the farm. The piglets are out on pasture on day 10 expressing their genes, supplementing their sow's milk by eating grass, organic soy free pig food from Modesto Milling and apples from our orchard. We sell weaners, roasters, and full size market hogs.

Because we breed them ourselves, we control the quality of their forage from day1, and can really minimize stress.
Its truly a shame that all pigs aren't raised outdoors where they can happily play outside and take naps and make wallows and dig around looking for stuff to eat.

When they root up their entire area, we simply pull up the electric fence and move them to a new area.

We sell them by the live weight so that we can use custom local butchers and avoid stressful truck drives as well as USDA inspected cuts a la carte at the farmer's market or farmstand.

Heritage breeds are excellent on pasture and when managed this way produce very high quality pork that brings us excellent feedback.  At this time we have Berkshire, Tamworth, and Large Black sows.
